Robert Sanchez Named O&R President and CEO

Robert Sanchez, the senior vice president of Corporate Shared Services at Consolidated Edison Company of New York, Inc. (CECONY), has been named president and chief executive officer of Orange and Rockland Utilities, Inc. (O&R) effective today.

He also has been named a member of the Board of Directors of Orange and Rockland Utilities, Inc. and Rockland Electric Company, Inc.

Sanchez succeeds Timothy P. Cawley, who had served as O&R’s president and chief executive officer since 2013. Cawley has been named president of CECONY, succeeding Craig Ivey, who will retire on December 31.

As senior vice president of Corporate Shared Services, Sanchez had responsibilities overseeing technology infrastructure, cyber security, gas and electricity supply and resource planning. He also was responsible for employee recruitment, retention, benefits, compensation and professional development as well as supporting diversity and inclusion initiatives for the company’s 15,000 employees.

A 27-year veteran of Con Edison, Sanchez has served in numerous positions of increasing responsibility since joining Con Edison in 1990, including vice president of Brooklyn and Queens Electric Operations and vice president of System and Transmission Operations.

He has served on the board of directors of Habitat for Humanity NYC, the Teatown Lake Reservation, the Queens Economic Development Corporation and the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce. He also is a member of the 2017-2018 Class of David Rockefeller Fellows.

Sanchez holds an MBA in finance from Pace University and a BS in electrical engineering from the University of Miami.
