How to Read a Meter With Dials

    RULE 1

    If the arrow is between the numbers, record the smaller number—unless it’s between 0 and 9. Then, record 9.

    Rule 2

    If the arrow is on a number, look at the dial to the right. If that dial’s arrow is between 9 and 0, subtract 1 from the number the arrow indicates.

  • Rule 3: If the arrow is on a number, look at the dial to the right. If that dial’s arrow is between 0 and 1, record the number as the arrow indicates.

If you recently stopped service and have a smart meter, your final bill will be based on your actual usage up until when your service stops. If not, your final bill will be estimated based on your past energy use. Don’t want an estimated bill? You can either pay for Orange & Rockland to read your meter within two days of closing your account or, if you have access to your meter, you can submit your own reading.
