RBA Honors Keep Rockland Beautiful for Helping County Stay Green
The Rockland Business Association (RBA) today presented the RBA Green Council Award to Keep Rockland Beautiful, Inc. for its strong, consistent efforts in waste reduction, energy efficiency and water conservation.
That presentation was made at the Rockland Country Club in Sparkill during RBA’s 7th annual Green Council Awards luncheon, sponsored this year by Orange and Rockland Utilities, Inc. (O&R), which nominated KRB for the award.
Keep Rockland Beautiful’s mission is to prevent litter and graffiti, beautify and improve communities and minimize the impact of solid waste on communities, schools and the natural environment. KRB beautification, neighborhood revitalization activities and educational programs are designed to build civic pride, enhance community values and reduce pollution.
O&R has a particularly special relationship with KRB, a non-profit organization, because O&R was one of KRB’s founding companies 19 years ago. O&R Regional & Community Affairs Director Tom Brizzolara was one of KRB’s founding board members. O&R Regional & Community Affairs Manager Michelle Damiani has served as KRB president, and has participated in KRB programs as an active board member for more than a decade. That kind of executive and managerial support from O&R not only provides constructive leadership in the boardroom but out in the community as well.
O&R has worked so closely with KRB over the years through their shared focus on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). O&R has supported dozens of STEM community and educational initiatives through the years, and has partnered with KRB on a number of STEM projects, ranging from the annual Great American Clean Up to the Rockland Planning and Land Use Symposium to the Energy Bike Demonstration Project.
O&R urges its customers to always put safety first. Anyone who smells natural gas should leave the area immediately and call O&R’s emergency gas hotline at 1-800-533-LEAK (5325) or 911
