Electric Appliance Rebates

Need a new energy-efficient appliance? There's a rebate for that.

If you’re going to purchase new energy-efficient equipment or an appliance for your home, not only will you save energy on your electric bill, but you may be eligible to receive a rebate from O&R.

See what qualifies below and review the Eligibility Requirements and Terms and Conditions regarding the rebate program. Then after purchasing, submit an application to get your rebate.

Refrigerator

The Consortium for Energy Efficiency (CEE) is working to transform the residential appliance markets in the United States and Canada. Through CEE's initiative, Super Efficient Home Appliances, CEE promotes the use of high energy efficiency refrigerators that use significantly less electricity than the federal standard. These refrigerators are defined as the upper end of the ENERGY STAR® spectrum based on energy efficiency.

O&R offers a rebate for refrigerators that are listed as Tier 2 or Tier 3 by the CEE.

Eligibility Requirements

Rebate Amount

Qualifying refrigerators must be listed as Tier 2 or Tier 3 by the Consortium for Energy Efficiency (CEE).

A conventional central air conditioner circulates cool air through a home using a system of ducts and registers. This system consists of an outdoor compressor or condenser unit that connects to an indoor unit to distribute AC throughout a home.

Eligibility Requirements

Rebate Amount

Must fall within the Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) and Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) guidelines as indicated

SEER ≥ 15 and EER ≥ 12.5 $100
SEER ≥ 16 and EER ≥ 13 $150
SEER ≥ 18 and EER ≥ 13  $250

Mini-Split Air Conditioner

Mini-split systems connect an outdoor compressor or condenser with an indoor unit to distribute cooling throughout a home.*

Eligibility Requirements

Rebate Amount

Must fall within the Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) and Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) guidelines as indicated SEER >= 18 and EER >= 13 $100
 SEER >= 20 and EER >= 13 $200

Heat Pumps

In New York State, conventional heating and cooling systems are responsible for 37 percent of energy consumption and 32 percent of greenhouse gas emissions. Clean heating and cooling technologies, such as heat pumps, are making it possible for homes to stay comfortable year round, save energy, and reduce their carbon footprints.

Heat pumps are two to four times as efficient as conventional oil, propane, or electric resistance heating. They are also a safer and healthier choice for homes, with no combustion of fossil fuels, fuel storage, or carbon monoxide emissions.

Heat Pump Bonus Rebates:

O&R customers who install a heat pump system may be eligible to receive the following bonus rebates. Customers who participate in NYSERDA’s Clean Heating and Cooling Communities Program are also eligible.

Mini-Split Air Source Heat Pump* $500
Central Air Source Heat Pump* $1,000
Ground Source (Geothermal) Heat Pump $2,000

*Effective April 1, 2020, must be found on NEEP's Cold Climate Heat Pump List to be eligible for rebates.

Complete an application through the Online Portal, and it will automatically be reviewed for the heat pump bonus rebate on the equipment you installed.

If you will be using your new heat pump system for heating, please visit the NY Clean Heat Statewide Heat Pump Program page for information on additional heat pump incentives as of April 1, 2020.

If you will be using your new heat pump system for cooling only, you may apply for the following heat pump rebates instead:

Mini-Split Air Source Heat Pump

Mini-split systems connect an outdoor compressor or condenser with an indoor unit to distribute heating and cooling throughout a home.*

HSPF = Heating Seasonal Performance Factor

Eligibility Requirements

Rebate Amount

Must fall within the Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) and Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER)
and Heating Seasonal Performance Factor (HSPF) guidelines as indicated.
SEER >= 18 and EER >= 13 and HSPF >= 9 $100
SEER >= 20 and EER >= 13 and HSPF >= 9 $200

Central Air Source Heat Pump

Central systems connect to a single indoor unit (often a furnace), pushing air through a series of ducts, which gets discharged through vents throughout a home. Very commonly they operate independent of a furnace and have their own air handler to distribute the AC or heat. Central systems rely on an outdoor compressor/condenser.

Eligibility Requirements

Rebate Amount

Must fall within the Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) and Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER)
and Heating Seasonal Performance Factor (HSPF) guidelines as indicated.
SEER ≥ 15 and EER ≥ 12.5 and HSPF ≥ 9 $100
SEER ≥ 16 and EER ≥ 13 and HSPF ≥ 9 $150

SEER ≥ 18 and EER ≥ 13 and HSPF ≥ 9

*Mini-Split systems are not all ductless; they can also be ducted, or a combination of ducted/ductless, and they utilize one or more indoor units. Mini-split systems that heat/cool an entire home are not considered as central systems for submitting a heat pump rebate, or determining rebate amounts.
