Electric Appliance Rebates

Need a new energy-efficient appliance? There's a rebate for that.

If you’re going to purchase new energy-efficient equipment or an appliance for your home, not only will you save energy on your electric bill, but you may be eligible to receive a rebate from O&R.

See what qualifies below. Then after purchasing, submit an application to get your rebate.

Refrigerator

The Consortium for Energy Efficiency (CEE) is working to transform the residential appliance markets in the United States and Canada. Through CEE's initiative, Super Efficient Home Appliances, CEE promotes the use of high energy efficiency refrigerators that use significantly less electricity than the federal standard. These refrigerators are defined as the upper end of he ENERGY STAR spectrum based on energy efficiency.

O&R offers a rebate for refrigerators that are listed as Tier 2 or Tier 3 by the CEE.

Eligibility Requirements

Rebate Amount

Qualifying refrigerators must be listed as Tier 2 or Tier 3 by the Consortium for Energy Efficiency (CEE).

Check CEE’s website for list of eligible models

Air Conditioners

Room Air Conditioner

A conventional room air conditioner provides spot cooling and can be either a window unit or a portable air conditioner. O&R will recycle your room A/C along with a scheduled pick-up for a working refrigerator or freezer, up to four a year. There is no rebate for recycling a room A/C.

Eligibility Requirements

Rebate Amount

Must be a current ENERGY STAR model  $15

Central Air Conditioner

A conventional central air conditioner circulates cool air through a home using a system of ducts and registers.

Eligibility Requirements

Rebate Amount

Must fall within the Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) and Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) guidelines as indicated SEER >= 15 and EER >= 12.5  $200
 SEER >= 16 and EER >= 13  $300
 SEER >= 18 and EER >= 13  $500

Mini-Split Air Conditioner

Ductless mini-split systems consist of an outdoor compressor or condenser unit that connects to an indoor unit to distribute AC throughout a home.

HSPF = Heating Seasonal Performance Factor

Eligibility Requirements

Rebate Amount

Must fall within the Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER), Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) and Heating Seasonal Performance Factor (HSPF) guidelines as indicated SEER >= 18 and EER >= 13 and HSPF >= 9 $100
 SEER >= 20 and EER >= 13 and HSPF >= 9 $200

Heat Pumps

In New York State, conventional heating and cooling systems are responsible for 37 percent of energy consumption and 32 percent of greenhouse gas emissions. Clean heating and cooling technologies, such as heat pumps, are making it possible for homes to stay comfortable year round, save energy, and reduce their carbon footprints.

Heat pumps are two to four times as efficient as conventional oil, propane, or electric resistance heating. They are also a safer and healthier choice for homes, with no combustion of fossil fuels, fuel storage, or carbon monoxide emissions.

Mini-Split Air Source Heat Pump

Ductless mini-split systems consist of an outdoor compressor or condenser unit that connects to an indoor unit to distribute heat throughout a home.

Eligibility Requirements

Rebate Amount

Must fall within the Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) and Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER)
and Heating Seasonal Performance Factor (HSPF) guidelines as indicated.
SEER >= 18 and EER >= 13 and HSPF >= 9 $100
SEER >= 20 and EER >= 13 and HSPF >= 9 $200

Central Air Source Heat Pump

Central systems connect to a single indoor unit (often a furnace), pushing air through a series of ducts, which gets exhausted through vents throughout a home. Central systems rely on an outdoor compressor/condenser.

Eligibility Requirements

Rebate Amount

Must fall within the Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) and Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER)
and Heating Seasonal Performance Factor (HSPF) guidelines as indicated.
SEER >= 15 and EER >= 12.5 and HSPF >= 9 $200
SEER >= 16 and EER >= 13 and HSPF >= 9 $300

SEER >= 18 and EER >= 13 and HSPF >= 9

Heat Pump Bonus Rebates:

O&R customers who install a heat pump system in 2019 are eligible for the following bonus rebates (no minimum eligibility requirements):

Mini-Split Air Source Heat Pump $500
Central Air Source Heat Pump $1,000
Ground Source (Geothermal) Heat Pump $2,000

Complete an application through the Online Portal, and it will automatically be reviewed for the heat pump bonus rebate on the equipment you installed.

Electric Water Heater

Water heating is typically the second largest energy expense in a home; it can cost the average household approximately $400 - $600 each year. Properly maintaining your water heater and choosing high-efficiency equipment can help you save energy, improve the comfort of your home, and contribute to a cleaner environment.

Look for water heaters that have a high Energy Factor (EF). The higher the EF, the more efficient the water heater will be.

Eligibility Requirements

Rebate Amount

Must have indicated Energy Factor (EF) Storage Tanks 55 gallons or less: EF >=2.0 $400
Storage Tanks larger than 55 gallons: EF >= 2.2 $100
