Haverstraw Utility Thermal Energy Network Pilot

The Haverstraw Utility Thermal Energy Network (UTEN) Pilot constitutes an initial phase of a comprehensive UTEN to be implemented in the Village of Haverstraw. The Pilot consists of two separate single-pipe ambient temperature loop systems including an eastern network by the Hudson River and a western network by the Village Hall.

Each UTEN will encircle approximately two to three blocks and will provide potential connections to the buildings on either side of the street. Most of the western loop will supply existing buildings that will need to be retrofitted while a majority of the eastern loop will supply a large new mixed-use development. The Haverstraw UTEN pilot will provide building owners that are adjacent to the thermal distribution pipe loops access to the thermal energy medium that can provide very efficient heating and cooling to the connected buildings

The thermal energy will come from geothermal boreholes, the Hudson River, and a wastewater heat recovery system. O&R will install, operate, and maintain the district thermal energy system and the services to each building, and the customers will maintain their internal efficient heat pump systems (that will be provided at no cost to the customers).
