NYS and O&R Mark April as Call Before You Dig Month; Make One 811 Call or Visit UDIG NY to Protect Diggers and Utilities From Damage
New York State, Orange and Rockland Utilities (O&R), and the other utilities who operate facilities and equipment underground in the state mark April as Call Before You Dig Month.
That’s to remind all professional excavators and Do It Yourselfers (DIY) to place an underground utility location request for their digging projects with UDigNY by visiting UDigNY.org or by calling 811.
Location requests are free and should be placed at least two business days, but not more than 10 days, before beginning an excavation project.
O&R Sr. Damage Prevention Tech James Misczuk sprays paint to mark out the location of an underground natural gas line that feeds this home in Monsey. Misczuk also will mark the location with a small yellow flag. This procedure warns excavators to avoid digging near the facilities to help prevent damage.
