Con Edison Supports President Biden's Ambitious Solar Energy Plan

Con Edison agrees with President Biden’s assessment that solar energy will play a large role in our nation’s fight against climate change and supports the plan his administration released today.

Generating 45 percent of the nation’s power with solar panels by 2050 will require commitment from government leaders, regulators, energy companies and consumers.

Con Edison’s Clean Energy Commitment places the company at the forefront of the shift toward renewables. Through its Clean Energy Businesses, Con Edison Inc. is the second largest solar producer in North America and seventh largest in the world.

The company wants to play an even greater role and is seeking approval to add thousands of megawatts of medium- and large-scale renewable generation in New York State.

Con Edison of New York and Orange and Rockland Utilities work every day with their customers to help them switch to solar energy. Customers have completed more than 50,000 projects with the capacity to produce 528 megawatts of clean, renewable power.

Consolidated Edison, Inc. is one of the nation's largest investor-owned energy-delivery companies. Orange and Rockland Utilities, Inc. (O&R), a wholly owned subsidiary of Con Edison, Inc., is a regulated utility. O&R provides electric service to approximately 300,000 customers in southeastern New York State northern New Jersey and natural gas service to approximately 130,000 customers in New York.
