Rockland Electric $5.4m System Reliability Project Begins; Work Benefits 2,400 Customers in Allendale and Wyckoff

Rockland Electric Company will begin work next week on a $5.4-million, electric system storm hardening project designed to improve electric service reliability, strengthen the electric infrastructure and protect the electric system from damage for approximately 2,400 of its customers in Allendale and Wyckoff.

To reduce exposure to equipment failure, severe storms, tree contact or motor vehicle accidents, an express overhead circuit between Allendale and Wyckoff will be relocated underground for over 2.25 miles.

Rockland Electric plans to begin the project on Monday, July 27. The principle construction of the manhole and duct system is due for completion in early November. The underground cable installation and commissioning is tentatively scheduled to start in late November or early December and continue into the first quarter of 2021.The project consists of work along Wyckoff Avenue, Crescent Avenue and Brookside Avenue.

Rockland Electric will be conducting this work within the Bergen County roads right of ways.

Rockland Electric has met with officials from Allendale, Wyckoff and Bergen County to discuss the project. Appropriate permits will be obtained, including required road opening permits from Bergen County.

The contractor crews will be working between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Adequate traffic control measures, including flaggers, will be coordinated with the Allendale and Wyckcoff police departments.
