Energy Supplier FAQ

Contact the energy service supplier directly and give them your 10-digit O&R account number to complete your switch.

Energy suppliers are corporations that compete to sell you electricity and gas. They must be registered with the New York Public Service Commission (PSC) and the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities, and act solely as the energy supplier — Orange & Rockland remains the energy delivery company. Different energy suppliers may offer different energy service options, incentives, and services designed to fit your needs. It’s important to shop around for the choice that suits you best.

In the case of electric service, your supplier will begin serving you on your next meter reading date (so long as you enroll 15 days prior). For gas service, you will begin receiving service on the first calendar day of the following month, provided you enroll by the 15th of the month.

Absolutely. We will remain your energy delivery company. We will continue to offer you reliable, safe, and effective service, and respond to all emergencies.

There are multiple billing options available. You could choose to have separate bills from your energy supplier and from O&R, or to have one consolidated bill. Ask your energy supplier about billing options when you enroll.

Regardless of which option you choose, you’ll always have access to your utility usage and billing history.

If you’re unhappy with your energy supplier, you can switch back to O&R or enroll with a different supplier—but make sure you check the terms and conditions of your energy supplier before making the switch.

Even if you’re enrolled with an energy supplier, O&R is still delivering the energy to you and providing you with customer services. In New York, you can contact the Public Service Commission with any complaints or service delivery issues.  In New Jersey, contact the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities.
