O&R Donates Nearly 11,000 LED Bulbs to Local Food Pantries

Orange & Rockland (O&R) is donating nearly 11,000 energy-saving LED bulbs to consumers at participating food pantries in O&R’s Rockland and Orange counties’ New York service area.

This donation is in addition to 38,400 LED bulbs O&R donated to local food pantries last year.

One 4-pack box of bulbs is to be included in each consumer’s individual food order for one week, through O&R’s vendor Greenlite Lighting Corporation (Greenlite).

An LED light bulb produces light using light-emitting diodes (LEDs). LED lamps are significantly more energy-efficient than equivalent incandescent lamps. LEDs are less expensive to use and come to full brightness immediately with no warm-up delay. They shine brightly, are cool to the touch, and switching LEDs on and off frequently does not reduce their life expectancy as with fluorescent lighting.

This donation is just one example of why O&R was honored as a 2020 Partner of the Year by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Energy Star program. The honor was in recognition of O&R’s successful energy efficiency program delivery, which included the LED bulb donation to food pantries program, among other programs. That overall effort effectively leveraged Energy Star certified products for its residential products program, helping save customers more than 55,000 MWh.
