No. Orange & Rockland will maintain the device and will provide a replacement based on the model installed. Depending on the model's battery, replacements will be installed between five and 10 years.
No. The Natural Gas Detector will only monitor the air in the immediate area where Orange & Rockland’s gas service pipe enters your home or building. Natural gas leaks may occur in other areas, or on other floors of the home or building without reaching the detector. Consequently, the detector’s alarm may not sound if a natural gas leak occurs in a remote location. Walls, doors, floors, and other obstructions may also affect the movement of natural gas and delay or prevent it from reaching the detector. For more comprehensive protection, separate gas detectors, which are commercially available, should be installed in other areas of the home or building where natural gas appliances, piping, or equipment are located.
Since the Natural Gas Detector will be installed in the area where Orange & Rockland’s gas service pipe enters the building, occupants in other areas of the home or facility may not hear the alarm when it is activated. Sound may be reduced or blocked by distance, walls, floors, closed doors, or the building layout. Noise from traffic, stereos, radios, televisions, air conditioners, appliances, or other sources may also prevent occupants from hearing the alarm. This alarm is not intended to serve as the sole warning method for individuals with hearing impairments.
