Gas Meter Exchange Program
New York State law requires that Orange & Rockland periodically remove, replace, and test a sampling of natural gas meters in our service territory.
How to Schedule Your Meter Exchange
When the Gas Meter Exchange program begins in late spring/early summer 2026 you will be able to schedule your appointment through our online scheduling tool.
Scheduling Tips
- You only need to schedule this appointment if you were contacted by O&R notifying you of a required meter exchange. There is NO charge for this required work.
- You will select 3 upcoming dates that work best for you.
- For safety reasons, an adult over the age of 18 will need to be home to grant access to exchange an indoor gas meter (if applicable) and/or to relight gas appliances.
- On the day of your appointment, you will need to restrain all pets prior to the technician's arrival and for the duration of the appointment.
- We will need clear and safe access to your gas meter and appliances.
Please note, we cannot guarantee the availability of the dates you provided but will do our best to accommodate. Once you have submitted your request, please allow for a 1-3 business days response in which you will receive an appointment confirmation.
Through our Service First program, we pledge to keep all mutually agreed upon appointments. If we can't make it, we'll call you and reschedule it for at least 24 hours ahead of time. The only exceptions are gas leaks, severe weather events or other emergencies in our service territory that prevent us from keeping our appointment with you. If we fall short of these performance standards, contact us and we'll correct it hassle-free and give you a $25 energy bill credit.
