Fleet Assessment Services

Electric Vehicle Fleet Assessment Service

If you are an owner or operator of a vehicle fleet registered in New Jersey and you are considering converting your fleet to plug-in electric vehicles, you are eligible for assistance from Rockland Electric to help prepare your fleet for electric vehicle charging. To apply for the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities’ (BPU) Clean Fleet Electric Vehicle Incentive Program, you will need to undergo a utility fleet assessment.

Clean Fleet EV Incentive Program

The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU) has established a community charging program and private fleet charging program for Medium- and Heavy-Duty (“MHD”) vehicles. The Clean Fleet Electric Vehicle Incentive Program supports local and state governments as they transition their fleets to EVs. The Program allows local and state government entities in New Jersey to apply for $4,000 grants toward the purchase of battery electric vehicles, $5,000 grants for public Level-Two chargers, and $4,000 grants toward the purchase of a fleet Level-Two EV charging station(s).

Who Qualifies?

Eligible entities include local schools, municipal commissions, state agencies or boards, state commissions, state universities, community colleges, county government and county authorities in addition to municipalities, municipal utility authorities, and state agencies.

For more information on this State-funded program visit Electric Vehicle Programs on the NJ OCE Web Site for award caps, bonus incentives and to apply for grants.

How Rockland Electric Can Assist

To help streamline the grant application process with the BPU, Rockland Electric is assisting applicants to ensure their selected location would be able to support the requested charging stations. To do this, applicants would need to review publicly available information regarding the grid capacity of their selected location; prepare a load request, a Utility Site Plan, and an Electrical One Line Diagram; and submit these documents to Rockland Electric as a New Service Request. If you need new or upgraded service for your project, you will need to submit a service request through the Project Center.

Rockland Electric would review the request and conduct any necessary studies to confirm capacity and assess possible system upgrade costs and communicate the results of these studies to the applicant, including whether or not the applicant may proceed with the project.

The applicant would then be required to submit the results of RECO’s decision, as well as their acceptance of any additional costs and their commitment to proceed with the project, to the BPU to receive final consideration for the grant program.
