Rockland Electric Company Receives Award for Enhanced Reliability Project in Closter
Rockland Electric Company (RECO) has been honored for the company’s efforts to bring more reliable service to customers in Bergen County.
At the 15th Annual New Jersey’s Leading Capital Construction Projects Awards ceremony on March 24, the New Jersey Alliance for Action recognized RECO for its Herbert and Homans Avenues Underground Distribution Project, which will benefit approximately 1,300 customers in the Borough of Closter.
Expected to be completed in early spring, this $2.9 million project brings nearly 4,800 feet of overhead power systems underground to address service issues caused by storms, motor vehicle accidents and equipment failure. Upon completion, the project will result in a reduction in outage frequency and duration for customers. The project also features an alternative electric pathway in the event any remaining overhead lines in the area are damaged.
“We are very honored to accept this award from the New Jersey Alliance for Action,” said Won Choe, RECO vice president of Operations. “Our customers rely on us to deliver safe and reliable service, particularly during significant weather events. Projects such as this one in Closter demonstrate RECO’s focus on proactive, forward looking solutions that enhance reliability today and help prepare the energy system for the challenges of tomorrow.”
“The Alliance for Action has been pleased to recognize these important infrastructure commitments made by Rockland Electric Company,” said Jerry Keenan, president of the New Jersey Alliance for Action. “It’s why we have chosen to honor this newest resiliency project, as well as previous work in Closter. Rockland Electric is providing reliable electric service to a fast-growing part of Bergen County.”
In 2025, the New Jersey Alliance for Action also recognized RECO’s additional work in Closter, which replaced 9,300 feet of overhead lines with a robust underground distribution system at Livingston Street. The $5 million project improved reliability and resilience to an area that has experienced multiple service interruptions due to tree contact, storms and motor vehicle collisions.
Rockland Electric Company has been honored for its work in Closter at the intersection of Herbert and Homans avenues to improve system reliability and weather resiliency.
