Rockland Electric, Con Edison Volunteers Help 3 Sisters Farm Prep Gardens for Growth

To jump start the annual Earth Week celebration which began yesterday, volunteers from Rockland Electric Company, and its sister company Con Edison, joined the folks at Three Sisters Farm (Pony Power Therapies, Inc.) in Mahwah Sunday (April 21) to dig into some serious garden work.

The volunteer, 15-member crew spent the day filling raised beds with soil, weeding, mulching, and transplanting to maintain perennial plant beds around the Farm in the Forest. That’s a sharing garden that supports a hot meals program, Oasis in Paterson. The garden also provides fresh produce for the farm itself and the Center for Food Action pantry in Mahwah.

Rockland Electric Company’s Jennifer Hall, who was part of the gardening team, said, “It felt good to work the dirt, knowing I was ridding it of rocks and weeds to add fresh soil for the vegetable seeds to grow strong roots. My colleagues are now fellow gardeners, helping each other, like a community. We can’t wait to see how abundant the garden will become in the weeks ahead.”

Rockland Electric Company is a regulated electric utility that serves approximately 74,000 customers in parts of Bergen, Passaic, and Sussex County in New Jersey. Rockland Electric is a wholly owned subsidiary of Orange and Rockland Utilities, Inc., which in turn is owned by Consolidated Edison, Inc.
