2021 Arts Al Fresco Series Kicks Off a Glorious Fourth Weekend

 

Con Edison’s 2021 Arts Al Fresco performing arts series opens the July Fourth holiday weekend in Sullivan County tonight, July 2, 7:30 p.m. at the Forestburgh Playhouse’s summer stock production of All Is Fair in Love with Nicholas Rodriguez at 39 Forestburgh Road, Forestburgh. A musical cabaret follows the performance on the grounds of the theater’s adjoining tavern.

Arts Al Fresco, sponsored by Con Edison, is an extraordinary series of safe outdoor arts experiences across the five boroughs, and Westchester, Rockland, Orange and Sullivan counties. Arts al Fresco events are scheduled this week, through the summer and into the fall.

Orange & Rockland (O&R), a wholly owned electric and natural gas utility subsidiary of Con Edison, also is playing a major role in supporting local programs in Con Edison’s summer-long celebration series.

The Forestburgh Playhouse, which marks its 75th anniversary season this year, is one of the oldest continuously operating summer theaters in New York State.

On Saturday night of July Fourth weekend at 7;30 p.m., the Sophisticated Ladies of Broadway and R&B, featuring Kathryn Allison lights up the Forestburgh Playhouse stage. A musical cabaret follows the performance on the grounds of the theater’s adjoining tavern.

There’s more Arts Al Fresco holiday weekend entertainment in store in Rockland County when the BridgeMusik Summer Festival presents a holiday weekend children’s concert entitled What Makes Music American? on Saturday, July 3 at 11 a.m. The program will share the power of American music with its youngest audience members in an interactive form, hosted by veteran teaching artist and BridgeMusik co-founder Tanya Witek.

The performance will take place at the Historic DeWint House, Livingston St. and Oak Tree Road in Tappan. BridgeMusik is composed of top-tier musicians, including several Rockland County residents, who perform regularly in New York City venues and around the world.

BridgeMusik celebrates the Fourth of July on Sunday with a holiday concert a 3 p.m., featuring award-winning jazz singer – Shirley Crabbe. This program will feature beloved American classics by Aaron Copland, George Gershwin, Cole Porter and others, performed in special arrangements for the BridgeMusik chamber orchestra.

This performance also will take place at the Historic DeWint House, Livingston St. and Oak Tree Road in Tappan
