O&R Donates $10,000 for Needy Kids' Backpacks and School Supplies; Since 2001, Company Has Given $100,000 to this Program

Orange & Rockland has donated $10,000 to help support People to People’s Back to School with Dignity initiative, a program that since 1994 has sent thousands of Rockland County’s needy children back to school each year ready to succeed.

O&R has contributed approximately $100,000 to this program since 2001. The program expects to distribute about 2,000 backpacks this year.

O&R’s Director of Regional and Community Affairs Neil Winter, a member of the People to People Board of Directors, said, “The backpacks and their school supplies are tool kits with which these students will have a better opportunity to build a brighter future though success in school.”

People to People allocates nearly $94,000 in funding and other resources to this program each year. Contributions of new school supplies --- including backpacks, binders, calculators and two-pocket folders --- and financial donations are still needed. School supplies can be dropped off at People to People, 121 West Nyack Road in Nanuet, Monday through Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and on Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Financial contributions can be made online by going to www.peopletopeopleinc.org.
