O&R Working to Restore Power to Remaining 1,900 Out From Storm

Approximately 1,900 O&R customers at about 170 scattered damage locations remain without power at this hour as a result of last night’s heavy rains and high winds that snapped trees and limbs, broke utility poles and blew down electric lines wire throughout the region.

The severe storm knocked out power to a total of approximately 16,000 O&R customers. All available O&R crews worked through the night to restore service to 12,000 of those affected customers at approximately 130 damage locations. Another 2,000 have been restored so far this morning.

O&R and mutual aid overhead line crews from National Grid and overhead line and tree contractors today are repairing damage and restoring service to the remaining customers affected by the storm.

O&R expects to restore electric service to the remaining 1,900 affected customers by 11:30 p.m. today.

#There are several ways O&R customers can report outages and check service restoration status:

* Go to www.oru.com from any computer or web-enabled mobile device;
* Use the O&R mobile app from your iPhone, iPad or Android device;
* Text “OUT” to 69678 (myORU); or

O&R reminds the public to maintain a distance of at least 50 feet from downed wires and anything they are in contact with including puddles of water and fences. Supervise your children so that they are not in the vicinity and keep pets on a leash.

If a fallen wire is draped over a car, do not approach the car to make rescue attempts. Remain a safe distance away, and try to keep the occupant of the vehicle calm. If possible, emergency personnel should handle the situation.
