O&R's Quackenbush Named a Con Edison Top Award Winner
It is not every day you meet a man as deeply committed to doing his job the right way as Jim Quackenbush is.
James A. Quackenbush, Jr.’s strong professional and inter-personal skills, his insightful leadership, his broad experience and expertise, and his high energy and enthusiasm to consistently do the job the best it can be done for his company and his community have earned him Consolidated Edison, Inc.’s highest employee honor, the “Living Our Values” award.
Consolidated Edison, Inc., O&R’s parent company, created the annual award to recognize and honor the values and work ethic of outstanding employees who consistently serve as positive role models in the company and in the community.
Quackenbush, along with five other winners from Con Edison, was selected from a pool of over 15,000 Consolidated Edison, Inc. employees. Each of the winners personifies the company’s values of service, honesty, concern, courtesy, teamwork and excellence.
O&R President and CEO Robert Sanchez said, “Jim lives and breathes the values our company is built on. His dedication to safety and to helping others has had a profound and lasting impact over his decades of service.”
Sanchez added, “Jim represents the best of O&R and it’s a privilege to be able to recognize him for all he has done for O&R and our community.”
Quackenbush, a lifelong Rockland resident, has been recognized for exercising unusually strong initiative with vendors to prevent a critical substation project from falling behind schedule. His thinking outside the box to develop an innovative schedule that kept another key project on-time and on-budget has been adopted as the template for future work in that area. His quick action in stopping an emergency transformer replacement job because he detected a clearance issue between an overhead transmission line and the transformer prevented tragedy.
As a tireless champion for safe work practices, Quackenbush is relentless about insisting on safety. Most recently, he played a major role in the development of significant improvements to the high elevation and confined space rescue techniques, equipment and training used in substations.
