Storm Knocks Out Power to 10,000 in Western Bergen County; Substations Damaged in Franklin Lakes, Oakland

The winter nor’easter raging through the region knocked out power to about 10,000 Rockland Electric Company customers in Franklin Lakes and Oakland late this afternoon.

The substations in both communities went offline about 5:30 p.m. today. Rockland Electric crews are now on site to investigate the cause further, and make repairs.

Rockland Electric serves 3,741 customers in Franklin Lakes and 6,313 customer in Oakland. Rockland Electric Company is a subsidiary of Orange and Rockland Utilities, Inc. O&R.

About 30,000 customers throughout O&R’s service territory have lost power as a result of the storm. Thus far, Bergen is the hardest hit with approximately 16,000 customers out of service.

 

There are several ways O&R customers can report power outages and check electric service restoration status:

 

  • Go to www.oru.com from any computer or web-enabled mobile device;
  • Download the O&R Mobile app through the App Store or Google Play Store;
  • Text “OUT” to 69678 (myORU); or
  • Call Customer Assistance at 1-877-434-4100
