O&R: Port Jervis Gas Main Replacement Work to Begin Jan. 30

O&R is scheduled to begin a new natural gas main replacement project on January 30 in Port Jervis. That project is designed to help improve service in the city by upgrading a portion of O&R’s low-pressure natural gas distribution system, which now features cast-iron mains, to a high-pressure system, which utilizes modern high-density, plastic mains.

The new plastic mains are more resistant to leak-causing corrosion than cast iron mains. The new, high pressure natural gas system also provides more flexibility to enhance reliable and safe gas distribution system operation.

That $915,000 project will replace approximately 2,500 feet of the low pressure gas main, including 34 gas services to buildings, as part of a large-scale effort by O&R to eliminate all low pressure gas main in Port Jervis. The affected customers have been notified of the project by letter from O&R.

O&R’s contractor, Titanic, will be replacing the gas main on Kingston Avenue between Beach Road and Hamilton Street,  and on Hamilton Street, between Glass Street and Kingston Avenue. The crews will be performing the work between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday for approximately 12 weeks. The duration of the project will be subject to weather conditions.

Traffic control flaggers, cones and signs will be fully deployed for workplace safety.
