O&R Charts 'Smart' Future For New Meters
Nearly 50 million gas and electric customers across the nation are served by Smart Meters and the benefits those meters provide are coming to O&R customers in the near future.
That’s what O&R’s Andrew Howard told the South Orangetown Rotary Club last Wednesday at the 76 House in Tappan.
Howard described Smart Meter program as an integrated system of meters, communication networks, and data management systems.
Among other benefits, he said, Smart Meters will reduce operating costs and facilitate quicker restoration of service after a storm event by communicating the precise location of service interruptions.
Howard added that the Smart Meters will allow customers to better control their energy costs and participate in various energy-efficiency and/or demand response programs.
