O&R Crews Helping Get Power Back on L.I.

Sixteen O&R overhead electric linemen, along with supervision, today are working in the Port Jefferson area of Long Island where they have been working since Tuesday as part of a Consolidated Edison, Inc. (CEI) effort to help restore power to thousands of customers of its neighbor, the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) and its electric system operating company PSEG-LI.

LIPA/PSEG-LI was struck Tuesday by a number of unusually destructive thunderstorms that knocked out power to more than 80,000 customers.

At 8:00 a.m. today, PSEG-LI’s outage map showed 3,827 customers still out of service at 540 separate locations.

O&R's 16 linemen have been deployed today as four, four-man crews to restore electric service in the Port Jefferson area that suffered severe tree damage from the storms. O&R also dispatched eight overhead linemen, working for O&R's contractor SPE, to Long Island yesterday to help with the restoration effort.

CEI is loaning its crews at the request of PSEG-LI.
