Power Companies Join in CSX Drills on Oil Train Concerns

Power Companies Join in CSX Drills on Oil Train Concerns -- CSX, the railroad company whose lines crisscross the region, conducted three nights of specialized emergency preparedness tabletop training for area first responders this week at the Bergen County Technical Schools’ Paramus Campus.

The training was specifically aimed at briefing local police, fire and health departments as well as local electric, gas and water utilities about the challenges associated with addressing the derailment of a train packing volatile crude oil, known as Bakken oil. Local emergency services officials have expressed concern about the level of training and equipment necessary to successfully respond to a train derailment involving the oil. CSX performed these drills to provide a clear picture of how such an event would unfold. Named for the rock formation it comes from in North Dakota, Bakken oil has been involved in a number of train crashes resulting in substantial fires and fatalities. Trains carrying the crude oil frequently run through Bergen County on their way to a refinery in Philadelphia. - See more at: http://www.oru.com/atoru/news/2015071501.html#sthash.uKlnrg74.dpuf
