NJ SHARES (NJ)

Resources on the Web

O&R employees as community volunteersAn emergency can quickly turn a life updside down. A financial reversal, an unexpected medical problem, an accident or any other kind of emergency could happen to anyone at any time. Sudden misfortune repects no wealth or position or status.

Maybe NJ SHARES can help.

The New Jersey Statewide Heating Assistance and Referral for Energy Services (NJ SHARES) offers financial assistance to Rockland Electric Company customers who find themselves unable to pay their home-heating bills because of emergency conditions.

Grants from NJ SHARES are awarded to pay for energy costs no matter what type of fuel is used – electricity, oil, natural gas, propane, wood, or coal. The grant money does not have to be repaid, and there are no age limits or income guidelines to be met.

To qualify for a NJ SHARES grant, customers:

  • Must have an account with Rockland Electric Company.
  • Must exhaust all community and governmental resources available for financial assistance.
  • Must provide supporting documentation of their emergency or crisis circumstances (medical bills, unemployment notification, etc.)

Who administers NJ SHARES grants?

Local human services agencies in the community, not the energy companies that organized NJ SHARES, decide who's eligible to receive financial assistance.
