Special Medical Needs

If someone in your household needs electric service to operate a life support device, you can file a medical certificate from your doctor or local Board of Health with O&R to enroll in our special Life Support Equipment Program. We will then work closely with you to help you prepare for planned maintenance outages and unplanned power outages. We'll also give you a special 24-hour Hotline Number to call in an emergency.

Eligibility in this program is based on your level of dependence and frequency of use of specific electrically operated medical equipment — not on the nature of your illness. For more information, contact Customer Assistance.

O&R does not provide portable generators during an outage. It is your responsibility to acquire a backup power supply if it is needed. If you do obtain and use a generator, proper operation of a portable generator is critical to the protection and safety of your family, your home and our electric line crews.
