Natural Gas Service Restoration |
previous |
The following steps must take place before O&R can restore natural gas service:
- The ranking police officer or fire chief on the scene declares
the incident over. Fire, police and ambulance responders demobilize.
- The Building Inspector rules that the home or building is safe to re-enter.
- The approved restoration of electrical service to your home or building must be completed
before any gas services can be reconnected.
- After the Building Inspector approves the structure's safety, the owner must contact
a qualified electrical contractor to assess whether the electrical system has been
damaged. Then, the electrical contractor must arrange for the building's electric
service to be inspected by an electrical inspection agency authorized by the municipality
before O&R is permitted to restore electric service.
- The building owner must then contact a qualified plumbing or heating contractor to
determine whether the building's heating and natural gas equipment has been damaged.
The contractor should either make the necessary repairs to the gas-fired equipment
or determine that repairs are unnecessary.
- When the contractors have completed the work necessary for restoration of gas service,
the building owner or the contractor should contact Customer
Assistance to schedule an inspection by O&R's gas technicians. They will need
access to all areas of the building where natural gas equipment is installed.
- O&R will restore gas service to the building after completing a thorough inspection.
