Why are you cutting down trees in my area?

Tree branches and limbs that fall on or rub against electric wires is one of the leading causes of electric outages during storms. To improve service reliability and ensure general public safety, we redirect tree growth away from overhead power lines.

How often do you trim trees?

One complete tree maintenance cycle takes about four years to complete. Therefore, roughly every four years, you'll see our contractor, Lewis Tree Service, trimming trees in your neighborhood.

How much tree trimming do you actually do?

All trees located within our rights-of-way are trimmed in accordance with national arborculture standards. Trees are trimmed so there's a 10-foot clearance below and beside the electric distribution wire. If a tree grows well above a line, it's trimmed with a 15-foot clearance above the distribution wire.

Why do you use a tree contractor to trim the trees in your service territory?

We hire tree contractors because they have superior knowledge and experience in directional pruning methods. Our contractors use the latest technology and have the know-how when it comes to implementing the healthiest way to achieve line clearance.

Who's responsible for removal of tree debris during tree-trimming?

Our contractor will remove only the debris that results from their tree trimming. They also chip the debris and, on occasion, may cut larger limbs and trunks into manageable sizes and leave them behind for your use as firewood if you wish. However, they will not remove tree stumps.

Who's responsible for removing debris as a result of storms or other tree-related outages?

We are obligated to clear only downed trees and branches from overhead wires and electric facilities in order to restore electric service. We will not remove debris from the customer's property. It is the responsibility of the homeowner, the local municipality, the County or the Department of Transportation to assist in debris removal.
