Why are some of my bills estimated?
We do everything we can to send you a bill based on an actual,
rather than an estimated, reading. Here are some reasons why we sometimes send an
estimated bill:
- extreme weather conditions
- emergencies
- a company strike
- the presence of an unrestrained pet or other obstacle that poses a health and
safety hazard for our meter reader
- no access (the meter is inside the house or in a locked garage or basement)
How can I avoid getting an estimated bill?
Here are some ways to avoid getting an estimated bill:
-
Submit
your own meter reading within 24 hours of the scheduled read
date shown on your last bill.
- Request a neighbor next door or a friend to give us access to
your premises. (Call at least a full week ahead of your scheduled
meter reading date.)
- Make a permanent arrangement with us by furnishing us with a key
to your garage or basement.
- Schedule a special appointment by contacting
us.
- Clear at least a three-foot square area in front of the meter
to allow us access to read the meter or turn it off in case of
an emergency.
- Trim bushes and shrubs to allow safe access to the meter. Our
reader has to be able to stand directly in front of the meter
to obtain an accurate reading.
- Keep your pet well away from the meter. Even the gentlest of
pets can get territorial when a stranger comes onto your property.
- During winter, clear a path to the meter. Carefully remove ice
and snow from the equipment.
- Don't let snow pile up on top of the gas meter or around its
connecting pipes. Easy access allows us to obtain accurate readings
and lets us turn a meter off or on quickly, in case of emergency.
