Con Edison, O&R Earn Edison Electric Institute's 2012 Emergency Recovery Award
PEARL RIVER, NY January 10, 2013 — The Edison Electric Institute (EEI) has named Consolidated Edison Company of New York and Orange and Rockland Utilities (O&R) among the winners of its 2012 Emergency Recovery Award.
Con Edison and O&R received the award in recognition of its exemplary restoration response to Superstorm Sandy, one of the worst storms the utility industry has faced.
“Following Superstorm Sandy, Con Edison and Orange and Rockland employees worked under challenging conditions,” said Consolidated Edison, Inc. Chairman and CEO Kevin Burke. “EEI’s recognition honors their outstanding efforts to restore service to our customers quickly and safely.”
The annually presented Emergency Recovery Award recognizes a member company that puts forth an outstanding effort following a sustained outage within its service territory. A panel of judges chose the winners following a national and international nomination process.
In announcing the 2012 winners, EEI spokesperson Brian Farrell said, “We can all be justifiably proud of the excellent response by the industry.”
O&R and its sister company, Consolidated Edison Company of New York, are wholly owned subsidiaries of Consolidated Edison, Inc.
