A Friend in Need
PEARL RIVER, NY July 2, 2012 — Eight O&R line crews along with two supervisors and
a manager have driven eight material handling bucket trucks and a digger-derrick to
South Jersey to render mutual assistance to Atlantic City Electric Co. (ACE).
ACE was struck
by unusually destructive storms, featuring 70 mph winds that uprooted trees, tore down
wire and knocked down poles Saturday, leaving over 200,000 customers without power
at the storm's peak. Those storms caused damage that was viewed as "more severe" by
ACE officials than the destruction caused in South Jersey by Hurricane Irene last August.
O&R
is loaning its crews under a mutual assistance pact administered by the Mid Atlantic
Mutual Aid (MAMA) group. Power is expected to be restored to the majority of the customers affected
by Wednesday with the remainder of the region restored to service by Friday. |
