O&R Gas Main Relocation to Alter Route 59 Traffic Flow
PEARL RIVER, NY April 16, 2008 — In response to a NYSDOT drainage concern and request, O&R plans
to begin work on Monday, April 21 to relocate a 12-inch steel, natural gas distribution main that runs from
west to east under Route 59 in Central Nyack.
That project will temporarily change the existing traffic pattern there — about 75 feet east of the
Nyack Lumber Yard — because the work will require closing Rt. 59's two westbound lanes. All traffic
then will be rerouted into a two-way pattern on the remaining
two eastbound lanes.
The work, which is expected to take as long as 10 business days, is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. each weekday
morning and conclude between 6 and 7 p.m. each evening.
The right-hand westbound lane will remain closed overnight with traffic being diverted to the left-hand westbound
lane, which will be covered with steel plates, overnight.
The work, which will be conducted weather permitting, is necessary because the gas main in its current location
obstructs drainage through a box culvert that runs across Route 59.
No O&R gas customer's service will be interrupted as a result of this project.
