O&R Volunteers to Spruce Up Girl Scout Camp as Part of Annual United Way Day of Caring
PEARL RIVER, NY October 3, 2007 — More than 20 O&R volunteers will be deployed throughout Girl Scout
Camp Addison Boyce in Stony Point on Friday, October 5 to
paint floors, walls, ceilings and picnic tables, repair screen
windows, rebuild gates and install flooring as part of the
autumn camp-wide clean up sponsored by the Rockland United Way's annual Day of Caring.
The Day of Caring utilizes volunteers that have been given a paid day off from their jobs in county businesses
to perform much-needed work for local non-profit agencies.
In addition to providing its skilled volunteers for the day, O&R also has underwritten part of the day's
activities with a grant of $2,500.
The O&R volunteers will be meeting at the Girl Scout Camp at 8:30 am for a team meeting and job
briefing on the projects for the day.
O&R raised more than a quarter of a million dollars for this year's United Way annual fundraising drive,
making the local electric and gas utility company the campaign's
Top Donor for the tenth consecutive year.
Since 1993, O&R and Local 503 have donated over $2 million in employee contributions and shareholder matches
to the United Way.
O&R employs over 1,000 people, almost all of whom also are O&R customers.
